What's It Like Being Upbeat's Finance Manager?

In March 2020, our amazing Finance and Operations Manager (Louise) is going on maternity leave. We’re currently recruiting for maternity cover: click here for more information.

What’s it really like working for Upbeat in this role?

Well, we asked Louise:

It’s varied day-to-day. I can come in with a plan and then it doesn’t always go to plan so I can think, “I’m going to put the budgets together today or I’m going to do some monitoring today”, and then some days that happens and it’s great.

Other days, other things happen, other things pop up and I have to get some cash out for someone or process lots of petty cash or chase an invoice that hasn’t been paid or something like that… You can come in with a plan and it doesn’t necessarily go to plan.

I think the biggest thing is that I can be sat doing my job and crunching the numbers and all of that and then someone can come in and there can be either an emergency or a really happy moment…

The interaction with the people, even though it’s an interruption to what you should be doing, is actually the best bit of the job in some ways. It’s what makes it different because I get to give something back and when I see the face-to-face that’s what makes it all worthwhile and makes it different to just working in an office running a company or whatever.
