The Derby 10K | The Amazing People Raising Money to Support Refugees

We’ve been so inspired by the amazing individuals who are taking part in the Derby 10K later this month to raise money for our work supporting refugees to thrive in Derby!

Find out more about them below…

Joseph, Diana & Efrem

Joseph, Diana and Efrem have been part of our community since they arrived in Derby to seek refuge. They’re taking part in the Derby 10K so that other refugees can be supported to thrive as they rebuild their lives.

Joseph shared some of his inspiring story with us:

"Upbeat Communities is a place of hope and support. They welcome me with a smile and a helping hand. It’s a place where I can make a network, connect with the community, and overcome the culture shock.

Every time I volunteer at Upbeat I develop my skills and experience. I’m so happy to be involved in the life reinvention of refugees because I experienced the same situation. If I am helping others, I am helping myself. That’s what I believe."

Charlotte

“If you know me, you’ll know I love Upbeat Communities and all they do for people seeking sanctuary in our City. That’s why I’m running the Derby 10K this March.”

Siobhan

“I’m running the Derby 10K because Upbeat Communities offer a lifeline of community and belonging for refugees rebuilding their lives in the UK.”

Steve & Matt

”If you know me (Steve) then you'll know running is not my thing! Some have asked if this is all part of a mid life crisis! Matt is a much more active member of the father and son team. Please do make a donation as we try and raise as much as possible to support this work.”

Julia

“The friendships and connectedness that refugees build at Upbeat can help them to overcome the many challenges they face. Every penny raised through fundraising will go towards sustaining Upbeat’s projects so that more refugees and asylum seekers can be empowered to thrive.”

Leina, Kate, Chris, Sarah & Kim (Team Althaus)

“Your contribution will play a crucial role in creating a supportive environment that nurtures connections, imparts essential skills, and ultimately transforms lives. Be a part of this transformative journey as we strive to make a lasting impact on the lives of those who have come seeking refuge in our community.”
