My Trip to Bakewell

We love to create community at Upbeat. It’s in our name. So, every few weeks, a group of us get together and go on a day trip somewhere in Derbyshire so we can explore, learn about British culture, and practise English together. Here’s what one of our participants wrote about their experience:

My trip to Bakewell with Upbeat Communities on the 23rd of July was a very nice trip. When I was told about the trip to Bakewell, I was so excited to be given such opportunity to go there for the first time.

It was Saturday morning on the 23rd of July. We all were prepared to go to Bakewell. First, it was an opportunity for me to get me to meet with others. It was a very friendly approach with so many from Upbeat that morning before we boarded the bus to Bakewell.

When we arrived at Bakewell that day, it was a warm welcome we all received, and I felt so loved by everyone. We were served breakfast, after which we went for a walk.

We were paired into two groups, some went to the museum, while others went to the lake. I was among those that went to the lake. I was so excited when I saw ducks and fishes in the water. We all stared at it with excitement and took some photos, after which we went back to where we were invited and had lunch together.

It was a very delicious meal prepared for everyone on that day. After we had lunch, we did some craft work, e.g. necklace, earrings, designed jewellery boxes and frames for pictures.

It was time to say goodbye to Bakewell and everyone. We all received beautiful flowers with a very good smell.

Thanks to Upbeat for the nice trip to Bakewell. Much love.

Many people seeking refuge face extreme isolation and even depression as they wait long periods of time for a decision on their asylum application. Trips like this are an essential way to lighten their burden during this time, enabling people to meet others in a similar situation, enjoy good food together, and have a laugh!

To help us provide trips like this on a regular basis, you can make a one-off or monthly donation at upbeatcommunities.org/donate. Thank you!
